Fiber winding strategies have always been related with stiffness and durability.
The Bracket is a demonstration for compliant springs. While undergoing a force, carbon can be tailored to bend using elastic deformation to perform certain tasks including vibration dampening. The model shown here is a spring like bracket where the tube can be wedged between a stiff upper support and a flexible base. When the pressure is exerted on the tube the lower bracket compresses and flexes to the tube thus creating a stable connection. The principle relies on using material properties and fiber orientations to control the amount of bending.
